Introducing the wonderful people that make our school so special

Teaching Staff

MRS JESSICA BALADO - Head Teacher

I joined St, Mary’s in September 2012 after relocating with my family from Hertfordshire. I have worked in Essex and Hertfordshire, starting as a Reception teacher, teaching classes across Key Stage 2 and as a deputy head and head teacher. In the summer months, I love cycling and spending time outdoors and during the winter, I enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles!

Mrs Tanya Treavett - Deputy Headteacher - Year 6 & KS2 Lead

Having been born in South Africa, I moved to the UK as a teenager. I joined St. Mary’s in 2015 as the new Deputy Head and year 6 teacher. I love teaching English and science. I am an avid movie fan (The Lord of the Rings films are the greatest ever made) and love playing a wide variety of board games with my family.

MRS KATHY EAST - SENCo

I am the SENCo at St Mary’s but also work for the Litcham Cluster as the Advisory Learning Support Teacher and SEND lead.My work has included running cluster literacy support programmes, before joining the Advisory Learning Support Team for Norfolk educational psychology and specialist support. In my spare time I love tending my garden, looking after chickens and I am completing my British gymnastics women’s artistic coaching qualification.

Mrs Becki Nash - Reception - EYFS & KS1 Lead

I joined the school in 2014 and love being a Reception teacher. As the EYFS lead, I am passionate about Early Years and providing holistic experiences for each child. I enjoy spending time with my lovely family and visiting friends far and wide.

Mrs Sam Roberts - Reception

I joined the school at the start of this term (April 2018) as the job share for the Reception class. I am looking forward to working at St. Mary's.

Miss Emma Gagen - Year 1

I joined St. Mary’s in 2013. I love teaching Year 1 and am passionate about delivering fun and engaging phonics learning. I also enjoy taking learning outside the classroom. Outside of school, I love spending time with my young family, out and about in our local area.

Mrs Jenny Castell - Year 1

I joined St Mary's in 2006 as an NQT. I particularly enjoy teaching science. Outside of school I love spending time with family. We enjoy making cakes together and we all love reading.

Miss Helen Watts - Year 2

I joined the school in 2014, teaching Year 2 after spending many years teaching in a special needs school. After spending a childhood avoiding maths, I now love inspiring children to see the magic in number. I have travelled a great deal and still enjoy visiting new places at home and abroad.

Mr shaun Depledge - Year 3

I joined the team at St. Mary’s in January 2018 as the Year 3 teacher. Music and drama are my passions and I play the trumpet. I enjoy going to music, theatre and comedy nights and looking after my two dogs, Leo and Gypsy. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking for family and friends.

Mrs Steph McKeller - Year 4

Mrs McKeller is currently on maternity leave and the class is being covered by Mrs Amanda Poll for the summer term.

I have been at the school since September, having relocated from Surrey. My favourite subjects to teach are English and science. In my spare time, I like to keep fit and to train my dog, Duke.

Mr Aaron Stehr - Year 5

I joined St. Mary’s in 2013 (having completed my teacher training here). I really enjoy teaching maths and English, using great films and literature to bring the subject alive. I love cooking and trying out new recipes and going to live sporting events (unfortunately I support Norwich – which can be challenging!).

Mrs Kirsten Stibbon - Year 6

I joined St Mary’s in September 2017 to teach Year Six with Mrs Treavett. I trained in Early Years and have subsequently taught across EYFS, Key Stage One and Key Stage Two during my career. I have worked in a wide variety of very different schools spent some time as a Primary Head Teacher. I currently teach part time so that I can spend more time with my family. I enjoy knitting, crochet, walking and am currently learning to play the ukulele.

Reconstitution of Governing Body

In January 2105, the Governing Body was reconstituted in order to form a smaller and more effective unit enabling us to co-opt according to particular skills and experience. The emphasis is on covering the statutory Governor positions effectively as well as co-opted positions that are filled based on a skills audit.  This reflects the need for Governors to be strategic leaders.

The Governing Body

The Governing Body has three strategic core functions:

• Ensuring clarity of the vision, ethos and strategic direction of our school.

• Holding the Head Teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.

• Overseeing the financial performance of our school and making sure its money is well spent.

The role of the Governing Body is one of strategic support and it is not involved in the day to day management of the school – this is the responsibility of the Head Teacher.

At St Mary’s the Governing Body plays an active role in the life of the school. Parents, the local community and staff are represented. The Governing Body meets regularly to help provide the best possible education for all our pupils.
